Français   Hongrois   Allemand   Anglais

Dear Madam, or Sir, Dear Guests,

Its the twenty fifth time that we have been organizing the Summer University on Filmart in Eger. The anniversary gives us a good opportunity to celebrate. To celebrate Hungarian Filmart, outstanding personalities of Hungarian filmart. At the same time we are also proud to celebrate, that in our town Eger this programme has got to this special anniversary.

When we started our programme, it was the golden age of Hungarian filmart. 1973 was the first year, when a 40-people French group of mostly young people lead by Mr Paul Robert studied Hungarian filmart spending ten days in the cinema of Eger within the frames of the first summer university of filmart. They got acquainted with films as Somewhere in Europe, A Patch of Soil, Merry-Go-Round, Poor Boys, and fifteen more films. They were very enthusisatic to meet the directors, Miklös Jancs6, András Kovács, Zoltán Fábry and writer Gyula Hernádi who were the first to come to Eger to meet the French guests.

This way this noble venture started twenty seven years ago and has turned to be a successful international event. /In two years -in 1975 and 1991- the programme was cancelled/.

The anniversary gives us an opportunity to remember those initiating and starting the Summer University on Filmart in Eger. We have already mentioned the French gentleman, Paul Robert who initiated the programme as leader of the French-Hungarian Friendly Society. His work was supported by mr Maurice Blaiseau, who was secretary of the French-Hungarian Society at that time. Mr Tibor Oláh also joined the arrangements working now as lecturer of the Foreign Language Department of the University of Economics but between 1970-1975 held lectures on Hungarian Filmart at Paris University. It was his advice to join the programme to the summer universities of the Organisation for the Dissemination of Scientific Knowledge /TIT/. That is how the initiators got to the National Centre of TIT in Budapest and from there to Eger, the Heves County organisation of TIT.

Mr Tamás Juhász / ~1981/ secretary of the Heves county organisation of TIT at that time undertook the local preparation and organisation work of the programme. He did. enthusisatically and with deep feeling of respon.sibility the tasks of the organisation of not only the monument protection but now also of the filmart university.

Mr Dr. Lajos Szilvási / ~1983/ was secretary of both summer universties. His quiet manners, respect to the participants, his colleagues, his outstanding organising abilities even now stand as example to follow for the present organisers.

Existence of the programme for twenty five years is contributed to those foreign filmfans who have been our guests for many years. As they say, they fell in love with Hungarian filmart and our town Eger. In their home countries they suggest the t7lmart programme in Eger and organize the trip here through filmclub-networks.

Among our helpers we wish to express our special thank to Mr Daniel Guffroy, his wife and two adult children from France, mr dr. Robert Schediwy from Austria, mr Wolfgang Knappe, Ralf Schenk, Lutz Wunder, dr Jörg Schweinitz, dr Hans Jörg Rother, dr Volker Petzold, and Herbert lJlrich from Germany.

This year we would l.ike to give a short revi.ew ot the history of Hungarian filmart. With the films mentioned in the programme we are going to remember important filmperiods and outstanding filmmakers: filmdirectors: István Székely, István Szöts, Géza Radványi, and actors Gyula Kabos. Pál Jávor, Katalin Karádv, János Görbe, Imre Soös.

The Organizers.
